Moving in December in Bryan-College Station: How to Plan a Move Around Finals and the Holidays
The short answer: December moves in Bryan-College Station bunch up around the end of the fall semester and the days before the holidays. Pick your date early, keep it away from finals week and holiday travel days if you can, and line up storage if your new place isn't ready yet. D&D Moving & Storage has served BCS since 2000, offers same-day and next-day availability when the calendar allows, and gives free, no-obligation quotes.

Nobody plans to move in December. It just happens. A lease ends with the semester, a job starts in January, a house closes the week before Christmas, or a parent needs to be moved closer to family before the holidays. And then you're trying to pack boxes between finals, office parties and a trip home.
The good news is a December move in BCS is very doable. It just rewards a little planning. Here's how we'd think about it.
What Makes December Different in BCS
The semester ends. When fall finals wrap up at Texas A&M, a lot of students leave town for winter break, and some leave for good. Graduates move out, students switch apartments for spring, and families come in to help. That puts more moves on the same handful of days.
The holidays shrink the calendar. Between holiday travel, days off and family plans, there are fewer days that work for everyone. Your movers' calendar fills from the same pressure.
Everyone's busy. You, your landlord, your closing agent and your new apartment office. The more people involved, the earlier you want a confirmed date.
None of that means December is a bad month to move. It means the good dates go first.
Pick Your Date With These in Mind
| If you're... | Aim for... | Watch out for... |
|---|---|---|
| A student leaving at semester end | A date after your last final, not the night before it | Every other student on your lease ending the same day |
| Switching apartments for spring | The gap between your move-out and move-in dates | Move-in dates that don't line up (storage helps) |
| A family moving into a new house | A weekday if your schedule allows | Closing dates that slide |
| Moving a parent before the holidays | Early in the month | Holiday travel days |
| Relocating to Houston, Austin or Dallas | Our daily routes to those cities | Holiday traffic on the drive |
Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. If you're looking at a date close to a holiday, ask when you get your quote and we'll tell you what's open.
Students: Finals First, Then the Truck
If you're an Aggie moving out at the end of the fall semester, here's the order that tends to work:
- Book your date as soon as you know it. Don't wait until finals week to call.
- Pick a day after your last exam. Packing the night before a final is nobody's idea of a good time.
- Check your complex's rules. We know which complexes near campus need elevator reservations, but your lease and your leasing office have the last word on move-out times.
- Decide what's going home and what's going into storage. If you're coming back in January, you might not need to haul everything to Houston and back.
Move-out deadlines near campus can be tight, sometimes just 24 hours after your last final. If your plans change, tell us early.
When Storage Saves a December Move
A lot of December moves have a gap in the middle. The lease ends December 15, the new place isn't ready until January. Or the house closes after Christmas and you need to be out of the rental before then.
That's where storage comes in. D&D has climate-controlled storage and non-climate units at our facility on Highway 6 South, plus boat and RV spaces. We can load you out, store everything, and deliver it when the new place is ready. You can read more about how that works in our storage units in College Station guide.
Last-Minute December Moves
Plans change fast this time of year. One customer wrote that they "called on a Friday night and was scheduled Monday morning." Another said "office personnel were helpful and quick to respond" and "they worked with us to meet a tight deadline."
We offer same-day and next-day availability for local moves whenever the calendar allows. December is busier than fall, so we can't promise a short-notice opening, but it's always worth asking. Our last-minute movers page covers what to have ready when you call.
Moving Yourself? Rent the Truck, Get the Muscle
Some people want to drive their own truck and save the crew for the heavy part. D&D is an authorized Penske agent, so you can rent a Penske truck through us. We can also load and unload rental trucks, so your couch and dresser get carried by people who do it every day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is December a good month to move in College Station?
It can be. The main thing to plan around is the end of the fall semester and holiday travel days, which put more moves on the same dates. Book early and you'll have more choices.
How far ahead should I book a December move?
As soon as you know your date. The days right after finals and right before the holidays tend to fill first. If your date is flexible, a weekday away from finals week and holiday travel days usually gives you the most options.
Can you store my things over winter break?
Yes. We have climate-controlled and non-climate storage at our Highway 6 South facility, and we can move your things in and deliver them when you're ready.
Do you move students?
Yes. We know which apartment complexes near campus require elevator reservations, and we plan around tight move-out deadlines after finals.
Can I get a same-day move in December?
Same-day and next-day availability depends on the calendar. December is busier, so call as early as you can and we'll tell you what's open.
How much does a December move cost?
It depends on the size of your move, the distance and the services you need, not just the month. Get a free, no-obligation quote for an exact number.
